History of  Dansalan College Foundation

A Lively Learning Experience

Dansalan College Foundation was originally named Dansalan Junior College (DJC). It evolved from work of Dr. Frank C. Laubach, the American missionary who promoted community service and established Madrasah school for the boys. His literacy method of "Each One Teach One" encouraged the Maranaos to learn how to read, write and speak. Officially offering a formal education, DJC was established in 1950 by a group of Christians who were at that time very much concerned about the development of the area, the then Dansalan, Lanao.

The school was primarily established to provide quality education to the post secondary youth of Lanao, Later, however the school had to expand its program.

Thus, in 1951, the secondary program was opened and acquired government recognition in 1995. Other services were started to be offered in 1960. These included those on health, agriculture, literacy and adult education. Four-year college degrees in Liberal Arts and Education were offered, thus, elevating the school to a full college status instead of just a Junior College. Other extension programs, particularly those on research, followed later. These led to the establishment of the Dansalan Research Center. Later, the Research Center was renamed Peter Gowing Memorial Research Center.

In the course of time the government Board and Administration saw the need to change the institution to something that is reflective of its programs and services. In 1981, the Board acted to change the name of the institution to Dansalan College Foundation.
